Illusion

Why struggle to open a door between us

when the whole wall is an illusion?

My Soul

I love you neither with my heart

nor with my mind.


My heart might stop

my mind can forget.


I love you with my soul because

my soul never stops

or forgets.

Beneficial

You must convince your heart 

that whatever God has decreed is most appropriate 

and most beneficial for you. 

Within You

If you find me not within you,

you will never find me. For, I have been with you,

from the beginning of me

Alone With God

There is a loneliness more precious than life

there is a freedom more precious than the world. 

Infinitely more precious than life and the world 

is that moment when one is alone with God.

You Cannot See

Study me as much as you like, you will never know me, 

for I differ a hundred ways from what you see me to be. 

Put yourself behind my eyes, and see me as I see myself, 

for I have chosen to dwell in a place you cannot see.

Peace

My dear heart, never think you are better than others.

Listen to their sorrows with compassion. 

If you want peace, don’t harbour bad thoughts, 

do not gossip and don’t teach what you do not know.

Seek

Leave that which is not,

but appears to be. Seek that which is,

but is not apparent.

It is your desires that lure you further away

from your quest for the Beloved.

If you are seeking Union,

you must enter the garden of longing.

Rumi's Life

Rumi had turned away from the world and worldly things. He led a dervish life.

Whenever there was nothing at his home, he would be glad and say:

"Thanks to God, today our home resembles to the home of the Prophet."

I am the servant of the Qur'an as long as I have life.

I am the dust on the path of Muhammad,

the Chosen One.

Hope

Never lose hope, my heart,

miracles dwell in the invisible.

If the whole world turns against you

keep your eyes on the Friend.

Beloved

Would I think of gardens, beloved,

with your face by

my side?



Would I long for light, beloved,

when I am lit by the fire of

your love?

Silence

O Master,

I know You taught us

that we couldn't get to You

without much effort and without Your help,

but all this silence is leading me 

astray.

God's Message

"Your calling my name is My reply.

Your longing for Me is My message to you.

All your attempts to reach Me

Are in reality My attempts

To reach you."

Without You

Without you

I swear even if I fly, I'm sad as a dark cloud.

Without you 

even in a rose garden I feel in prison.

Without you 

I find no joy in life or relief in death.

Sorrow

 

Everyday my heart falls

deeper in the pain of your sorrow.

Your cruel heart is weary of me already.

You have left me alone, yet your sorrow remains.

Truly your sorrow is more faithful

than you are.

Rumi's Advice

Many of the faults you see in others, dear reader,

are your own nature reflected in them.

In generosity and helping others

be like the river.

In compassion and grace

be like the sun.

In concealing others' faults

be like the night.

In anger and fury

be like the dead.

In modesty and humility

be like the earth.

In tolerance

be like the sea.

Change

 

Yesterday I was clever,

so I wanted to change the world.

Today I am wise,

so I am changing myself.

One Desire

I once had a thousand desires, 

but in my one desire

to know You 

all else melted away.

Treasure

Your hope in my heart is the rarest treasure.

Your Name on my tongue is the sweetest word.

My choicest hours

Are the hours I spend with You.

O God, I can’t live in this world

Without remembering You.

How can I endure the next world

Without seeing Your face?



O God, If I worship You because of fear of hell

Then burn me in hell.

If I worship You because I desire paradise

Then exclude me from paradise.

But if I worship You for Yourself alone

Then deny me not Your eternal beauty.

Inseparable

Your fragrance is always with me.

Your face never leaves my sight.

Day and night I've been longing for You.

My life is spent, but my desire for You remains.



It's not possible to carry my heart any more.

It's better that my yearning take it from me.

If I don't give my heart to the longing I have for You,

what else could I do with it? Why would I have it?



O Beloved, we are locked in friendship with You.

Wherever You may step, we are the ground for You.

In the religion* of love it isn't allowed

to see the world through You and not see You.

Rumi's Pure Heart

"One day while Rumi was praying in solitude he was so concentrated that he did not

even notice when a man walked in and said: 'I am very poor, I have nothing.' When he

saw Rumi totally entranced in prayer he took his prayer rug and left. When Rumi's

friend learned about this he immediately started searching for this man. He caught the

man trying to sell the prayer rug in the Bazaar. He brought him to the presence of Rumi.

But Rumi replied: 'He must have taken this rug due to his need. Forgive him.

We must purchase back this rug from him.' "

One Day

One day your heart

will take you to your lover.

One day your soul

will carry you to the Beloved.

Don't get lost in your pain,

know that one day

your pain will become your cure.

Remember God

Remember God and He will remember you.

Keep invoking God and you will find Him with you.

Seek whatever you need only from Him.

Whenever you are in distress, call only on Him for aid.


Happy moments, Praise God

Difficult moments, Seek God

Quite moments, Worship God

Painful moments, Trust God

Every moment,

Thank God

I belong to You

"My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that, and I intend to end up there."


My sight, my heart, my life

belongs to You.


When I touch the ground in prayer

I have no other purpose

but You.


My only wish is to become

one with You.

Rumi's Prayer

On the first day of the new year, Rumi used to recite the following prayer.

"O great God, I beg You to be protected against Satan and to be helped to

fight against the greedy and the lustful soul in me, that orders me to do evil, to busy

myself with things that draw me closer to You, and avoid those that pull me away from 

You. O God, kind and merciful one! I ask You this in the name of Your pity,

Magnanimous and All-generous One!"

Awakened Heart

Oh Beloved,

take away what I want.

Take away what I do.

Take away what I need.

Take away everything

that takes me from you.



Come, come, whoever you are.

Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving.

It doesn't matter.

Ours is not a caravan of despair.

Come, even if you have broken your vow

a hundred times.

Come, yet again, come, come.



Despair Is a Sin

The Prophets said, "Despair is a sin

The grace and benefits of the Creator are infinite."

Many miseries are hard to endure at the beginning

But then they are relieved, and their anguish vanishes.

After despair, many hopes flourish, just as after darkness

Thousands of suns open and start to shine.

Our duty is to resign ourselves and do what God wills.

Do not despair

If the Beloved pushes you away.

If He pushes you away today

It's only so He can draw you back tomorrow.


If He closes the door on your face,

Don't leave, wait

You'll soon be by His side.

If He bars every passage,

don't lose hope.

He's about to show you

a secret way that nobody knows.

Rumi's Religion of Love

Be certain

in the religion of Love

there are no

believers or unbelievers.

Love embraces all.

The Path of Love

In Rumi's poetry, love is the soul of the universe, and this soul knows no bounds it embraces all people, all countries, and all religions. The goal of Sufism is to know love in all of its glorious forms and every prophet, every practice, and every form of worship that leads toward love is, in essence, Sufism. 

Surrender

Happy the eye that sheds tears for His sake.

Fortunate the heart that burns for

His sake.


My Friend,

I offer You my life.

Accept me, make me drunk

and save me from both worlds.

Set me on fire

If my heart settles on anything

but You.


Looking at my life I see that only Love

has been my souls companion.

From deep inside my soul cries out:

Do not wait, surrender

for the sake of Love.

In the Arms of the Beloved

O my Beloved,

I searched both worlds

but never found joy without you.

I have seen many wonders

but never a wonder like you.

I pressed my soul's ear

against countless doors

but never heard words as sweet as yours.

Every question I ask is about you,

Every step I take is toward you.

I slept well last night

But I woke up drunk

I must have dreamt about you.

Whispers of the Beloved

Prayer clears the mist

and brings back peace to the soul.

every morning, every evening

let the heart sing,

La ilaha il Allah.

"There is no reality but God."

We are bound together

I am the ground

You are the step.

How unfair is this Love!

I  can see Your world

but You, I cannot.

A sad little story...

Rumi had a cat whom he loved very much and who loved him, and after Rumi’s death, his cat refused to eat and died one week later. She was buried near him by his daughter, as a sign of his friendship with all creatures.

Do you want to enter paradise?

To walk the path of Truth

you need the grace of God.

We all face death in the end.

But on the way, be careful

never to hurt a human heart!
